Bought a Nokia 6100 mobile a couple of weeks ago from
the local Tesco's - reduced to 46 quid. Notice today that
it's been further reduced to 34 quid - so obviously a bit
peeved. Asked the Sales assistant if they'd refund the
difference but she seemed to think they wouldn't.
I have heard of other retailers like Gap giving customers
back some money/vouchers if an item is subsequently reduced
in a sale soon afterwards.
Anyone know if Tesco usually do likewise ?

TIA, Colin

Of course they won't and why would they?

Goodwill? Soon Tesco will own the supermarket and the corner shop and
then you'll be sorry.

Don't they have a 28 day no quibbles return? Or 14?

Depends on when you bought it I suppose

Hello,

Are you for real ! Why should the shop give you anything? I take it you
are very young and have not yet realised that prices do go down over time.
You can't expect a shop to just give you money or vouchers for a product you
paid a certain amount for compared to the price today.

If they had put the price up by £12 a couple of weeks after you purchased
yours, would you have offered to pay "them" the difference...Somehow, I
doubt it.

If you have ever been to America (NY state being my example)
You will know that consumer law gives you this exact same right.
It's the norm over there.

So if you buy something and it costs £50 and it goes down to £25 a week
later.
then all you need to do is pop back to the store and they'll refund by law
the other £25.

Its well known over there that you buy something pre-sale time and just go
back during the sale
and get it for sale price. The game they play is guessing what items go in
the sale and buying them before.

So there's no reason why they couldn't do this in the UK.
All it would take is a big retailer like Tesco to start it off and it may
start a trend.
But I doubt it'll happen over here to be honest.

hmmm, waves BS detector over previous post ... gets a reading of 8.5

why not save everyone a lot of fuggin about and buy when you 'know' it's
actually on sale ? seems like an awful lot of unnecessary bollix to me.

I know that some if not all Californian stores including the large
ones like Macy's and Sears do the same thing I don't know if it is law
but they offer it for around 30 days.

So if the price had increased to 58 quid 2 weeks after you bought it, would
you have offered Tesco the difference as a gesture of goodwill?

Just curious :)

Does your receipt have any serial tracking information on it relating
to the handset you bought? e.g. IMEI or phone number? If not, then just
go and buy another one at £34 and then go back and return it on the
£46 receipt unopened.

Of course :)

Did the same thing with a Motorola V3690 phone a good 5 years ago at a
Virgin Megastore after it dropped a good £50 within days of me buying
it :|
